Horses have been domesticated for over 500 years. This means that over time and through controlled breeding programs that they no longer have all the same things their ancestors did that could allow them to live healthy lives without human intervention. In our environments we feed foods that are softer, the ground is softer, or they may need to move across man made grounds which are too hard, their work is often and regulated, they don’t have access to free roaming etc etc. All of these things means we need to care for our horses a lot more than we used to hundreds of years ago such as regular farrier visits, regular dentistry work, regular worming, chiropractors, massage therapists, supplements etc. If you are new to the horsey world and are unsure of how to correctly look after your horse then please send us a message and we will be more than happy to help you work out a regime that is tailored to you and your horse.
